Not funny.
There was supposed to be humor in that?

Not necessarily. It's a soap opera comic - a "serious comic", if you will.
C'mon, that is hilarious.
Read the article.
Uf. That guy had better not quit his day job. That was the worst comic strip ever.
This one's better:

If, by "day job", you mean "professional cartoonist," then yes; yes, I agree with you.
I guess you guys haven`t seen Meredith.

I guess that's for high-minded "New Yorker" readers. Far too deep for us rubes not lucky enough to live in the world's most (self) important city.
i dont quite understand the joke. were they both running at the same time on the previous day? are they still on the same run from the previous day?
Sorry this one has me confused. please explain.
It's not a comic about runners, its a comic about comics. Running just happends to be the platform. If you read the article it says that everyone in the cartoon is unemployeed and doesn't do anything but train for the marathon. Therefore they couldn't have seen meredith unless they were running.
It's a soap opera comic. Stay tuned.
so they train a lot, and dont have jobs. what is so funny about that?
Is there a reason they are both fat asses?

Have you been to a marathon lately?
i get it. it's funny because it shows that soap-opera comics aren't funny or interesting. what's less interesting than two fat new yorkers who plod around town all day, never doing anything else? not much. it's po mo (fo sho).
Yes you have the correct response. The author was basically putting down soap opera comics but says he wants to try one because of the money they make.
It was funny in that it wasn't funny. It was a sarcastic poke at soap opera comics. The author's request for feedback for his attempt is the give-away.
so it's funny...because it's not funny?
Dreadful no matter the attempt.
