Nike Free Running Shoes

I have the Nike Free Everyday+ and love them. I use the for training runs 2-3 times per week and work really well for me. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a second pair of lightweight trainers to use.

I agree with Streak XC. I believe lightweight trainers require lightweight use. "Redlining" a shoe like the free would be using it for more than its intended purpose; as the original post states, to strengthen your foot.

Nike is a great shoe company, but by no means are they the last word on shoes. Their marketing strategies are highly effective; however, Nike failed to clearly mention that the Free Everyday's predecessor, the original Nike Free was for use as guys/girls like Streak XC uses them for; mild, short runs a few times a week to strengthen feet.

You must be careful in wearing the Free, because we are not a society raised walking barefoot, so we are all not fully conditioned for a shoe like the Free for "full-time" use. Unless you are a natural, pure form.

I run all of my training runs in the Nike Free 5.0 and really like them. Training runs range from 8 miles to 20 miles. However, I think it depends on your feet--I do best in a light, flexible shoe so it works for me.

If you used the search function, you wouldn't adding to the over 69,000 posts (seriously) about Nike Free shoes - instead, you'd be reading them.

I have been running exclusively in the Nike Free 5.0 for close to 3 years now. However, I am not a high mileage runner. I do recommend them to my runners who have knee or hip problems. They have helped many of these runners return to health. I'm a fan.

I found them, like others have said, to be a great training tool however I wouldn't pick them as my ideal exclusive training shoe.

Basicly after getting sick of getting injured with motion control and orthodics on relatively low mileage compared to what I do now, I adopted a strategy going to flexible light shoes. So the free's fit in well with that overall strategy but I think if you need to have thart overall strategy for them to be effective.

If your looking into that, I would recommend having at least 3 different pair of shoes, for speed, long runs and mid-distance training runs.. and continuing to hunt for good deals on shoes, never pay more than 60-80 dollars if you can, and build up a "stable" of shoes so you never wear them out completely and they can recover between runs to offer maximum cushioning.

I have a pair of the black Nike Free 5.0's, purchased last year (probably the Version 3?). My objective in the purchase was to develop my lower extremeties, after reviewing barefoot.org. My first impression was, "no, this is not like barefoot running". But nonetheless, I've grown to really like these shoes! I've put hundreds of miles on them, and they show hardly any sole wear! (Man, I hope Nike does not discontinue them or make them less durable!) They cause no adverse Achilles pressure for those of you with Achilles issues. They are flexibly supple, so they do help strengthen the lower extremeties, and lightweight to help you develop your natural gait. I've run at least a couple of training marathons in them (though my forefeet got 'worked' (blisters, etc.) at those distances in them.

I have had bad issues with achilles pain. At the attachment point on the heal I always seem to get pain. I have run in stable shoes and non stable shoes, superfeet insoles and no superfeet insoles. Nothing seems to help. Do you think running in something like the free might bea good idea. I feel like I have gone through every other option.

To be honest, the Free might exacerbate your problem...at least temporarily. The elevated heels on most trainers cause the Achilles to atrophy a bit. Switching to a lower heel shoe (i.e. the Free) will cause the Achilles to stretch back to its natural length, though not without a period of discomfort during the transition. If you're willing to put up with possibly several months of this, you may benefit in the long run (no pun intended).

I think Im going to give it a try. I have had all kinds of issues are college with this and at this point I dont have alot to lose.

As a side note. Im not sure if it matter at all but I dont really wear running shoes all that much (jsut when im training) otherwise I am wearing sandals for chacos.

I'm a firm believer of the Nike Free concept. I think the biggest opportunity for shoe vendors is to copy this concept and go after the big "Nike" and focus on the quality of materials how certain 'running specialty' brands such as Brooks, Saucony, Asics, Mizuno, etc. can hold their own against the large nike company. These brands offer quality shoes that dominate the running specialty store industry where Nike may fall out of the top 5. They have the concept, I'd just like to see some other companies go after them and come up with an even better product that no one else is doing currently in the industry. It's not rocket science, just pure biomechanical science.
