So, I know my college coach focuses more on speed training during the XC season, so I was thinking of doing something like this for the rest of my summer training (I've just been doing easy mileage for a month):
Mon: 30 mins easy minimum
Tues: Shorter tempo (20 min tempo or maybe long intervals at Daniel's T pace with short short rest)
Wed: 40 mins easy minimum
Thurs: Longer tempo (progressive run or something like 7-8 miles at tempo speed)
Fri: 40 mins easy minimum
Sat: 50 mins easy minimum
Sun: Long run
6-8x100m strides mon-wed-fri
Strength work Mon-tues-thurs-fri
Minimum means that I HAVE to run for that long on those days, but if I feel good, I'll add on an extra 10-20 mins.
Note that I'm still only running around 60 miles a week since I only started training 2 years ago and didn't get serious until last year (I got up to 45-50 last summer). This is a small D3 school so basically anyone can be on the team which is why I can continue with XC. Plus the coach told me not to get the mileage up too high since he doesn't run that high of mileage in season. Hell, we don't even do doubles in season (only for our 5 day pre season training).
So is it a good idea to focus on tempo so much since I won't be getting much of it in season? Or should I still just go for a traditional base of running a lot of easy miles?
