Any word on the opening at UC Davis? what happened with the former coach?

Where have you gotten this info?
I heard it too.
I want to make sure people know the truth; Chris resigned due to personal reasons (only). He is in very good standing with UC-Davis administration, and they have offered to be of support whenver possible.
Chris is an excellent coach: his record of developing runners is impressive. At various meets I have met some of his runners (including Prefontaine last week) and they say nothing but good things about him.
Lots of luck, Chris!
So how many people who read letsrun will apply?
How good do you have to be to get an interview? years of experiece, championships etc?
UC davis hmmm.... they have a lot of talented runners. But, let me tell you something they really need a new coach. Im not trying to be mean or anything i just know that what they are doing is not working. For some people it is but for the most part the runners their need some help. I just want to see them get on it again. But, if this is true about the coach leaving i am very interested to see what this coach can do. This team is not dead they are really talented but need some help.
Better check the pay before applying!
Bring back Hunt!
Actually, Erv Hunt is there already, helping with the sprinters. But you're right, he'd get those wussy distance runners going!

Jim Hunt, who is currently "retired" and coaching happily at Bishop Manogue in Reno, NV. He helped out at Davis when he "retired" from his other coaching position. Hunt will always be a coach, but I don't he or Joanne are itching to move back to Cali.
I heard Eddie Balme was interested.
WHO IS EDDIE BALME?

They should look to some of the younger coaches around. Walsh at PC is good. Blincoe at Nova has had a good impact - brought in some good young athletes (Mackenzie ran 4:00 indoors as a frosh), and has had a hand in getting Curtis to where he is. The assistant at OK State does a good job too. Get some fresh ideas in there.
Steve Laurie should seriously consider applying. Coaching experience is the only thing he lacks. He has the leadership and the running knowledge as well as a love for the team. I know it's a long shot but I think he would make a great coach.
gary towne
a few years back they went hard after conover from cpslo. wondering if they go after him again. he is a jim hunt guy.
Gary would never leave Chico
Interesting.
Puppione was only at Davis for 4 years and was able to get promoted from assistant to head XC coach in relatively short order. Not bad after leaving Amador Valley High in Pleasanton in 2004. Hope everything works out for the young man.
Word is that the leading candidate was already interviewed and offered the position but they passed so I guess the search continues
Parker Valby post 5k interview... Worst of all time? Are Parker Valby interviews always cringe?
MSU men > NAU by 1 point even though Nico Young and Colin Sahlman tripled!!
