I'd just like it say it's not always about getting older. I was diagnoses with an under active thyroid at 14 years old! I have always been thin. I get very frustrated with people saying I should be bigger in size. And I have no under laying "skinny" issues etc. And yes! I hate feeling cold! I can't ever de warm enough! Dry hair. Dry skin. Fatigue. It goes on. But bearable.

hypothyroidism is very overdiagnosed. people want to blame their weight gain on a medical condition when its really just called getting older and fatter.
sometimes doctors practice less than optimal medicine in order to please their patients. medicine is a business and a happy patient is a returning customer. many patients walk in the door looking for a confirmation of a diagnosis they've already decided they have (usually based on searching the internet). thyroid testing can be a bit subjective so in order to keep the customer happy doctors say "yes you have hypothyroidism" and patient gets to go home on meds, lose weight, and tell people they arent fat because they eat too much but because they have a condition.
