I am organizing a 10k race this summer, which is sponsored by a major corporation. I've never organized one before, so this one is a good start as you get a 'laundry list' of items they (the corporate sponsor) want to see at the event. two of the items on the list are to have a live band as well as a DJ playing recorded music. I spoke to the DJ from last year (the first year for this race) and he had a concern as to how this mixed with the band. The way they had it was to have the DJ playing tunes before the race for the warmup, and during the race while the runners were out (on a big loop), and then the live band came up after the race. The concern was that the band didn't really have an 'audience' as after the race was mayhem, with a pancake breakfast going on, kids entertainment, and general post race happenings. I'm not sure if it's really worth having a band there, but it seems to be a requirement of the sponsor, so I'm stuck with having one. Does anyone have good ideas of how to incorporate band/DJ into a road race so that they used most effectively? I'm not suggesting everyone has to sit down for a set, but I'd like them to be a real positive part of the atmosphere. Any thoughts?
