Hi everyone out there,
(background info is first question is second).
From the subject you can guess that I am looking to run the marathon and to get some advice on training for it. I am aware there are a lot of threads on the forums and have read a lot of them. However, my issue is being prone to injury which I am. I was a pretty average HS runner running a 920 at the end of junior year. I had a really good summer going into senior year and had 3 good XC races before I got stress fractures in both shins.
Ever since getting these SF in my shins i have had injuries off and on. I went to college and ran decently well but was hurt often. Unfortunately for me due to these injuries some of my best times are still from freshman year. VCP i ran a 2603 for the 5 mile, my best 5 mile being at Belmont Plateau at 25:07 my sophmore year.
My best 10k is a 31:35.
The last two years (graduating this year) have been sub par (at least a minute off of my prs) at best and again plagued with injuries. I am done on the college scene and have decided to take some time off currently since I am having shin issues atm.
TLDR version: I developed SF in both shins in HS and they have been plaguing me constantly. I haven't had real improvements since sophomore year of college because of this issue.
However I wanted to try and run NYC marathon this year. I was thinking of taking off till at least June and that starting up slow. I have tried starting up at 50 mile weeks in the past and it has caused me injury every time so i'd probably start around 35-40 tops.
I'd appreciate any advice anyone could give. Thanks.
