wow, great interview, just a heartbreaking reality of losing the love of your life.
Best wishes in the 10K Alicia. I will be rooting for you. Thank you for your honesty and strength.
In the video of the Pitch Meeting for that story, the guy to the main woman's left was really annoying. Very, very insensitive. He seemed to have little knowledge of the sport, yet criticized continually.
yea, and i am positive that those are fake-ish pitch meetings. he knew exactly what was being presented and what he was going to say about the situation.
It was impossible not to be moved by Alicia's raw emotion. But the pitch meetings are ridiculously artificial.
Not only were the 'meetings' fake, but they reminded me at being back at work where people just bitch at each other in a meeting. Great. I come home to watch a great segment on running and have to listen to the same stuff I left at work. Other than that, it was a moving piece.
I agree. Everything would have been just fine if they had not ended the piece with a generic round-table discussion of Alicia's chances of qualifying for the Olympic team. That's not what the story was about. Alicia, and the people supporting her, should be happy and supportive of her efforts regardless of whether or not she makes the team. Go Alicia!
As if the roundtable wasn't negative enough... It goes into a segment on Mike Tyson!
I would rather have alicia make the olympics than myself. She probably has a better chance too. :)
I know Alicia is hurting right now but I'm praying her soul will be comforted and she takes the nice memories she has of Ryan with her on to the next phase of her life.
Alicia seems to be a very nice person and hopefully one day she will fall in love again and be a part of some lucky mans life.
I wish Alicia all the best on her future endeavours!
Man, that was a good video.
chokes one up.
I watched it last night on ESPN. I liked it overall. The only negative impression I was left with was how seemingly unsympathatic Lisa Salters appeared to be. The most difficult question of the interview, in my opinion, was asking Alicia what the doctors said when she was told the news of Ryan's passing - and she said it with a smile that seemed completley inappropriate for the situation. It's not like this was something that happened 5 years ago. His death is still fresh in her mind, and that was apparent throughout the piece.
Then when she was talking about Alicia afterward, it was like she was discussing the upcoming trials like some kind of experiment - curious and skeptical, but without any compassion. I kept waiting for Salters to refer to Alicia as "the subject".

Yep... pissed me off.
anyone know how to figure out when that segment is actually going to be on E:60? i can't find a description of what E:60 is aired at what time and in trying to record this, i ended up getting some mike tyson garbage.
also is the video on the website complete? i'll just watch it there if it is but it would be really nice to record if i could.
It aired yesterday, 7pm EDT and 11pm EDT
How did you find out when it was supposed to air? I'm on the west coast and wonder if it may come out at a different time here. It just seems as if there is no way to find out whether you are going to get mike tyson or alicia shay!

That was the one. The first and last parts to it are about Mike Tyson. The Ryan Shay part is around the third segment of the show.
If you missed it, it's on flotrack
