I'm a female collegiate runner and I'm actually writing this e-mail on behalf of a couple of my teammates. We all had our ferritin levels tested in mid-August and there were several women under 10. These women were tested again this past week and two of them actually had lower levels than before. Both of these women have been taking a prescription-strength iron supplement and eating red meat 3-4 times per week. They have also both tried taking elemental iron w/ oj in past years, without success. I'm wondering if anyone has had any personal experience with this issue and/or if there are any medical experts on the subjects who you would recommend I get in contact with. Any help would be appreciated thanks.
