improvement after high mileage

hi everyone. im a college freshmen 19 years old and hve been runnng pretty high mileage this year. im improing very steadily and feeling stronger every week. ive been reading the posts on here about burning out and stopping of improvement from high mileage and its kinda freaking me out. i dont want that to happen to me. my question is can i improve from this season to next season with dropping my weekly mileage or since im running 90-105 miles a week now can i expect to me at my peak for distance running?

keep doing the same mileage, its not like theres a physical limit to how long you can run 100 mile weeks. The burn out is usually mental and if you can keep yourself motivated you will continue to see improvements, though the improvements will be less and less, they are there.

it all depends what your 'cycle' of training and racing is and what it is leading up to. I ran 100 mile weeks in college, from August to December; but the mileage dropped into the 60-70 range during track season in the spring as we did hard interval workouts 2-3 times a week and raced on the track. By the end of May we were probably running about 40 miles a week as we did sharper and faster workouts, peaking for out end of season meets in May and June. You want to be on a 'training cycle' that is headed somewhere; with a goal at the end of it. Now, when I was out of college and training on my own, mostly for the 10k through the marathon; I kept my mileage higher for longer periods of time and never dropped it below 80 a week, unless I was injured or resting for a really big race.
