It's a HS race guys, you know that, right? Point being that if Derrick is running this fast in a relatively meaningless early season invite, what will he be doing down the road?
8:48?
So Derrick finally shows his true colors.
Where is your golden boy now? Guess not as good as you thought huh? People! Find yourselves another savior.
Uh, j@ck@ss, he ran a 13:55 SOLO, negative-split race. The LAST 3200 in THAT race was sub 8:50.
I predict he never runs that time again.

The 13:55 was a complete aberration. In fact, was there really an official timer there or any video proof? Do you know anyone who was really at that meet?
But now, in front of God and everyone when it really counts, Derrick has shown his true colors. An 8:48 is hardly worthy of Ruppesque stature. As I said before, find a new savior people.

HAHAHAHA.
I, too, predict he will never approach that time again. In fact, the prognosis for Derrick is so bad that I'm not sure if he will even live to run another race again. He's probably dead already.
Although a very very respectable double, I'm not sure how this is "national" news. There are plenty of kids doing this now... Many might have no idea who Riley Sullivan is, but at Arcadia he doubled the 3200 (or was it 2miles) in 856 or something, then came back and anchored the DMR something like an hour later in 4:12ish/4:13ish to win and nobody talked about it. Not comparing the two performances as equals, and I don't know what kind of effort both kids put out to achieve these successful doubles, but if you are going to begin a thread about something, make sure it is something other high school kids aren't doing on a regular basis. The 13:55 outweighs this performance hands down - and I was there and it did happen if that was a for real question on the validity of the run. The run itself was more impressive than the numbers show.
Just my 2 cents.
There are not "plenty" of kids doing this or "other HS kids are doing this on a regualr basis". 8:48/4:14 double is remarkable. Its not done often. Running 13:55 is indicative of a faster 3200 but dont down downplay 8:48.
Geez, you run sub 9:00 nowdays and all these armchair QBs pretend its common place
I don't think anyone has said it is an amazing performance or better than his 13:55. They are just pointing out what he recently ran. I could care less about what Riley Sullivan does because he hasn't run 13:55, I am interested in what Derrick is doing because he is so good and it will be interesting to follow his progress this season.
As for debunked, stop responding to him, he is obviously a troll.
I struggle to think of a single professional middle distance runner who would double with a 3000m and a 1500m at the same one day meet.

Yes you do.

One guy did them often, for a full mile and 2 mile!
4/07 8:50.4 2 mile & 4:17 relay leg
4/24 8:55.6 & 4:16.6 St Clair County meet
4/28 8:59.0 Granite City Invite
5/02 9:24.2 O'Falon Relays
5/03 4:27.9 & 2:02.1 Conference meet
5/05 8:46.6 & 4:11.8 relay Orphan Relays
5/15 8:54.0 Cahokia Invite
5/18 8:53.6 & 4:10.9 District
5/21 8:48.6 & 4:08.5 Meet of Champions
5/25 4:10.0 State meet heat
5/26 8:42.6 & 4:12.2 State finals
6/01 4:05.5 Top 10 meet
6/09 8:40.9 Intl Prep Invite
6/23 13:36.8 3 mile at Ntl Jr AAU
7/04 4:06.1 Freedom Mile (5th)
7/14 8:10.2 3000 for 3rd vs West German Jrs
7/20 8:16.0 3000 win vs Poland Jrs
7/28 13:58.2 5000 win vs USSR Jrs
This could be an interesting match-up. Virgin's senior year versus Derrick's, or anyone you dare to compare.
As posted above...
Virgin - April :
4/07 8:50.4 2 mile & 4:17 relay leg
4/24 8:55.6 & 4:16.6 St Clair County meet
4/28 8:59.0 Granite City Invite
Derrick - April:
13:55 5k
8:48 3200 & 4:14 1600 double
Actually, I thought when I saw this thread, "Wow, he's running fast times as often and as well as Craig Virgin." And this confirms it -- actually, so far he's doing better. Just like he did better in the fall.
Derrick > Virgin. Believe it, old men.
Your logic is flawed.
1 mile > 1600 meters
2 mile > 3200 meters
I personally think running 8.48 and 4.14 one week after running 13.55 for 5k demonstrates strength. Derrick is close on Virgin territory now, and is not far from Don Sage's best double, which was 8.42/4.08, but in a far more important meet. This meet was essentially meaningless (Neuqua actually lost the meet to York).

8:48/4:14 32/16 > 8:55/4:16 2mi/1mi
13:55 5k > almost anything on that list (not to mention that it was alone in mid-April)
