"My experience from training with the Kenyans, even the very young ones, is that they go right under their LT on almost all the sessions." (quote from article at link)
Is lactate threshold a specific pace? Or does it refer to a level of effort?
During college, we always did weekly tempo runs at 25-30 seconds/mile slower than current 5k race pace. For me that meant around 5:40 pace. So is Marius saying I should be hitting this pace during each of my daily runs? I am building a base right now, but none of my mileage is done at near that pace. In fact, excluding strides, almost none of my miles are faster than 7 min/mile.
And does "tempo" refer to the same pace as "LT"? It just seems tough to me to be hitting tempo pace on an almost daily basis during the base phase. I realize the Kenyans only hit it for portions of their runs (e.g. not 100% of their miles), but that still seems tough.
I feel like I know everything and nothing at the same time. Please read the article.
