i did the same research a while ago. one thing i found out was that the particular type of eye "problem" that i have which causes me to be near-sighted would be corrected almost fully by the surgery. the stumbling block for me was that it would come back and i'd be wearing glasses/contacts again in ten years or so. and apparently, at this point, one can/should only have the surgery done once. so i'd be risking those horror stories for maybe ten years of not using corrective lenses. i wasn't sure i wanted to risk f***ing up my eyes for life to begin with, largely for the sake of convenience of not wearing glasses - for ten years it was an obvious decision.
i know plenty of people who had the surgery and are fine. i don't know anyone who reaches the level of the horror stories, though some have trouble at night with bright lights.
