You asked whether "A" battle toad could beat "A" TMNT.
This raises the issue of strength in numbers. It seems to me that the turtles are a serious force when they work together and they are a little crappy on their own.
From the movies: Raphael tried to strike out on his own in the first movie and he got lit up by a bunch of worthless foot soldiers. When they fight Shredder at the end, they find him one-on-one and get beat down. (Only Splinter is powerful enough on his own.)
From the games: Ever played the four person-two screen version of Turtles in Time? It's easy as crap. Ever played the original TMNT for Nintendo? It's impossible and stupid.
The Battletoads are a little different. The games do not completely suck if you play without a partner, but they are a little bit harder. (I think that both the TMNT games and the Battletoads don't have as many enemies in one player mode, but if there is a big difference in the amount you fight RELATIVELY, that would affect what I've said.)
SO, it seems like a turtle operates at roughly 1/8 the total strength of the group (half their value put together, a little stronger when you consider two turtles). A battletoad is more like 1/3 (only 15 percent less than their value when they're together).
If you come down in the middle on their strengths relative to each other, totally plausible considering they all have weapons (sledghammers, horns, and feet for the toads), they're both reptiles, etc, then you might end up giving the edge to the toads.
I wouldn't, though. The Ninja Turtles have shells.
Tough call. I'm a huge fan of both. But if I had to pick, I'd say BattleToads
battletoad would own TMNT.
to this day, battletoad was among the hardest games I have ever played.
I originally thought TMNT mainly due to their weapons and hard shell, but then I remembered the Battletoads have drills and hammers etc for hands and wear really big steal-toed boots. TMNT seem to have more martial art skills, but the 'toads have more raw fighting power, not to mention their edginess. I say a Battletoad has the advantage, but a TMNT could still win.
I've been trying for 15 years to beat the third level on Battletoads. I always crash my scooter and die.
