is the hs close to the strip?
is the hs close to the strip?
If so, what an amazing high school to attend!
So who wants to meet up with us for some runs? since we are at St. Andrews State Park I would think that'd be a great place to start. We'd be down with running with anyone who is up for it, not to mention 7 of us plus whoever joins would be a pretty sweet group. Bring on the drunks!
whats your email ringo, ill be down there from the 16-22nd
we'll be from the 15th-20th
anyone else annoyed by the 10-day forecast? honestly every 4 or 5 hours it changes. First there is no rain at all now mostly rain, who knows what we will actually get
some teammates and i were down there several years ago and attempted to do a workout at the local track...worst idea ever. there was a high school pe class that was walking laps when we arrived, but the hs track coach was the pe insturctor so he got the first couple of lanes cleared for us. regardless of this attempt the workout was a disaster. every group that we passed yelled something/spit in our direction, our discarded warmup gear was hidden, and hurdles were placed in the middle of lanes 1&2 every other lap or so. the coach had zero control and did nothing. you couldnt retaliate bc they were in high school and the coach knew which university we represented...and it was all a bunch of emo punk kids which made it even more annoying.
guess it wont be a problem if the high schools are on spring break but if you are planning on any kind of track session i recommend making sure that youve got the track to yourself.
run early on the strip, or run after dark / late evening at the hs track. don't run on the strip or on the beach after dark or you'll get wacked in the head with beer bottles beer cans - etc. 75% of the problems are fellow spring breakers, the other 25% of the problems are locals who are pissed off at the spring break crowd. also - once you are off of the strip, and away from the beach, despite what others will tell you - Florida is "the south". especially in the "panhandle" near FWB and PC. Look at a map, you are really close to Alabama and Georgia - so keep that in mind. If you were to drive away from the beach - it would be fairly easy to find some nice dirt roads and/or country roads to run on. just keep in mind that you guys don't want to be running 5 across when some bubba redneck comes along in the pickup. keep this in mind, gun racks and shotguns.
head out to the state park as mentioned earlier - not many people go there.
also, most locals - especially out in the sticks away from the beach are really nice. once i tagged along on a business trip with my dad - i was running along on a country road - at least 45 min away from the beach - with all of the trees, i didn't realize that there was a big thunderstorm moving in. anyhow the lightning was really incredible - i ran back to a house, knocked on the door and asked if they would mind if i stood under their carport ... anyway, they invited me in, asked me i wanted in water, told me that they didn't see too many "joggers" around there, asked me where i went to school ... etc.
