I have an upcoming race in about a week and my coach isn't having me do any speedwork at all between now and then, just putting in base mileage. The race is next sunday. Will I still be able to run to my potential?

is this your final race of the year? or are you planning on running your best at the end of track season?
I'm done with my indoor season, and this is a road race. I was just curoius. What if an experienced runner, like myself, just base trained for several weeks and tried to race, would I be able to perform as if I was in midseason form?
I ran my best 5 mile road race, 25:58, off of no workouts. I did two mile time trials at goal pace. That was it. Mabye throw in some tempo surges during your runs. Of course it won't matter now. But the season is young so it isn't a big deal.
Depends on a couple factors. Midseason, when you are doing speedwork, could be slower because you aren't tapering your workouts with a goal of peaking 1/2 way through the season. If your base work is good, and feel fresh, you could suprise yourself with a good time.
