Mine showed up rather suddenly. I had no pain it at all or reason to believe it was a weak spot for the past 5 weeks of training at around 85 miles a week. Then one day on an easy run it felt a little funny out of nowhere. The next run I did a short run of about 6 miles though and by the end of it i was having a pretty good amount of pain when i pushed off with my big toe. It was swollen afterward. Since then i have just taken the past 4 days off to see if anything happens. It definitely feels better. My only worry is that it makes a creaky sound when I flex my big toe downward or move it with my hands up and down. this worries me because one website I read said that if you run a metatarsal stress fracture into a complete fracture then u will hear a crunching sound when u move it around.
Can a fracture come on this fast? Anyone have experience with this crunching sound?
1st metatarsal fractures are rare I heard because the bone is so thick, so I am wondering if anything else is going on here. I am curious to hear back from the OP. So apologies in advance if I bump this thread a couple of times.
