Jeremy is a joy to watch run, but from interviews doesn't strike me as the sharpest knife in the drawer. This only buttresses this suspicion.

Since MJ is his agent, do you think this is a MJ stunt or a Wariner decision.
I would tell Wariner to dump MJ. To have the WR holder of the event that you are trying to beat as your agent is just blame stupid.
F*** MJ.
this is the most logical thing i have read on letsrun in a long time. very good perspective and i agree 100%. why would MJ want someone to break his record??
thank you for posting.
Don't give Coach Hart so much credit. The man has coached for 42 years as a 400m specialist and produced two 400m world class 400m runners. There is more there than meets the eye. Its not the coach, its MJ behind everything. What you will see is Mr. Warner run just as fast. Its all about what MJ was taking and giving Warner.
Or....think Rocky Balboa. Johnson is out of the spotlight running a restaurant and helping a lot of his old-time pals, when ESPN creates a computer simulation to decide who is the best 400 meter runner ever. The computer picks Johnson over Wariner. Wariner gets pissed and cannot take this embarrassment. Wariner then challenges the aging Johnson to a race. Johnson agrees and makes a bunch of cheesy speeches for no apparent reason about how you can never give up. Johnson wins the race as Wariner takes the victory for granted.
Merrit left college early a few years ago and is coached by his high school coach. Dont know what kind of system he has. Hart did not coach like most sprint coaches. Hart has alot of volume at slower pace then other sprint coaches. When he finds a new coach it will intersting to see if he takes on a different system with more speed. You hate to see that because 1. why fix something that isnt broken 2. with more speed you increase the chance of getting hurt( the main reason Hart has his system)
On another note today what is more vaulable a great coach or a great doctor?
There is no way that system can work. You can't do volume without a signficant amount of speed and run 43.18 and 19.32. Forget that system unless you have sports medicine.
I wonder if Wairner can spell idiot! ABM = A Bad Move!

what about Darold Williamson, Sanya Richards, and Greg Haughton?
that's just off the top of my head.

So Wariner is switching coaches? Good, now maybe he can do something worthwhile like RUN THE 800!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG!!1!1! You are so right... in fact why doesn't he jump up to the marathon with that speed. After all, everyone knows the longer the race the more it matters.
The fact is he has a chance to be one of the all time best at his events... why can't you all just appreciate greatness, even if it is in an event you couldn't even imagine running competively
Seriously he has an opportunity to be the best all time in the 400, why the hell would he move up?

was that an element of satire?
serious question.
Well, Michael Johnson, Jeremy Wariner (up until now, anyway), Sanya Richards, etc, would beg to differ that you don't run well off a higher volume/lower intensity schedule.
By "high volume" they mean Wariner does a lot of 450s, 500s, 600s, etc as opposed to tons of 200s and 300s at max speed. Not that he's doing 80 miles a week or something.
Baylor has had 9 men run sub 45 in the open 400m while in college.
Name a more successful 400m coach.
In fact, how many countries have produced that many world class 400m runners?
This isn't about money, though Hart is generously making it look like that so that the larger issue won't hang around Jeremy's neck like an albatross during the upcoming Olympic year.
The real reason is that Jeremy wouldn't follow Hart's coaching last year -- decided to call the shots himself on when and where to run (mostly not running the big meets because they wouldn't give him the appearance fee he and MJ felt he deserved, and running more 200s than Hart wanted him to). He basically, as I understand, just gave Hart the brush-off while still wanting to have him as a coach "in name." It was just too much stress on Hart, and Hart decided to wash his hands of the matter.
And whoever said that Hart isn't the only good 400 coach -- that's true. There are other good 400 coaches. But Hart is the best 400 meter coach in history -- on both the collegiate and professional level. No one comes remotely close to him.
Will Jeremy succeed on his own? Probably. I hope so. But it's a shame that Jerermy, unlike his predesscor (MJ), decided he was such a big-shot that he didn't need Hart telling him what to do. MJ stuck with Hart and was COACHED by Hart, and he had a long career. Jeremy is just starting out, albeit in an amazing way. Time will tell if Jeremy's brush-off was the beginning of the end for his career.
This is a nice theory, but two things don't make sense:
1) Why would Hart take the fall for JW and say it's money - I assume he plans on coaching again in his career, why would he potentially tarnish a relationship with future athletes like this?
2) If Wariner stopped listening to Hart, why didn't MJ tell him he should? Unless the theory that MJ doesn't want his own record to be broken is true, but I can't see that happening... right?
Hart is clearly the best in history. This comes from a rival coach who did butt heads with him and can find him a bit "egocentric". BUT....Name any other coach that could arguably put a 4X4 relay team together that could take gold, silver and bronze with an "all Baylor" squad. Keep in mind that Baylor is 1. a private school2. a Baptist schooleliminating a lot of sprinters, yet look at the following athletes Zeke Jefferson – 44.86Brandon Couts – 44.72 Donald Williamson- 44.27Marlon Ramsey- set NR of 45.1 at TX State meetWillie Caldwell – (former WR holder @ 500m)Deon Minor- 2-time indoor champRaymond Pierre- 44.59 NCAA ChampJeremy Wariner- 43.62Michael Johnson- 44.21 at BaylorTony Miller – 45. somethingJohnny Thomas – 20.53 (44.2 relay)Darnel Chase – 45.19Etheridge Green – strong 45 guyRaoul Howard – another strong relay guyStrong – sub-45 relay guy

BTW 1) Hart is in his 70s, a Baylor/Waco/world icon, and Harbour now is the head coach. He doesn't care if he coaches again. He has nothing to prove.
2) Michael is very egotistical but regardless what Jeremy does, no one can take what Michael was to the sport. A level unto his own.
Some posters either forgot like "are you kidding me" or "the430miler" OR are only 14. "Toro" got it right.

WTF is that? Is he related to Donald Duck?
Probably called typing fast AND IS THAT THE BEST YOU'VE GOT??????
I'm surprised you didn't point out that Jeremy has a 43.45 to his name. We would have respected that more.
It's times like this I personally wish there was a LetsRun.com Convention. Lotsa ass whoopin' going on.
