lil wayne is way better than eminem. he rhymes good, but what lil wayne does is use his lyrical genious to put plays on words at the same time flowing, not very many guys can do that

If you had the slightest knowledge of the rap or hip-hop culture, you would have understood the "werd" reference. Fess up, you're old.

ok so it seems like a pretty large number of people regard lil' wayne as the best rapper in the world today(not necessarily people on the letsrun boards but in general). I have listened to a bit of his stuff, but not all that much, and I don't quite yet see him measuring up to others who held the title of best rapper (Jay-Z, Biggie, Tupac, etc.) Can anyone provide convincing evidence of his greatness?
I like his little bit at the end of Dollar Bill by Wyclef/Akon and his solo freestyle stuff I've seen on youtube is very impressive but other than that what is good? The one I've heard on the radio the most is "I feel like Dying" and that song is absolute crap. He's barely even rapping there. Any links to youtube videos or download suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks!
Please don't put Jay-Z in the same sentence as Biggie and Tupac. Thanks.

Practice what you preach. Go to the mirror, Boy!
Reasonable Doubt = Classic...Biggie only made two cd's

Ouch... you got me on that one!
going back to your explanation of "Li'l Wayne" - wouldn't, by your definition it be spelled "Li'l'"? What about the missing "e"? does it just run away?
Besides, the English language rules and regulations don't apply when dealing with proper nouns, names to be specific. It is his name and does not necessarily stand for "Little" - it could originally be "Lilly Wayne" or something of the like.
Which then brings me to (hopefully) begin a new topic of discussion: What are some possible names that "Lil' Wayne" stand for?
he used that name for two reasons:
he's a "junior" (he took his father's full name)..so he's the "little" one in that sense..
he rapped on his first single at age 12...."little" again applied @ that time

eminem is way better than lil wayne in my opinion. his freestyles are great. if people think lil wayne is best because of his freestyles, thats bullsh**. eminem's freestyles are insane and his songs are good too. look for em's new cd coming out later this year.
I just threw up on myself. You wanna hear good hip-hop that will blow away anything Eminem has? Listen to Daylight by Aesop Rock, Poem Burial Ground by Bronze Nazareth, or I Who Have Nothing by Jedi Mind Tricks. You'll poop yourself it's so good.
white kids...especially distance runners who have no understanding of rap or any reason to talk about it, should not be arguing who is the best rapper alivee.....

That's racist.

Of course, anyone who uses the apostrophe incorrectly could hardly be the "world's best" at anything.
The apostrophe goes in place of the letter(s) and/or sounds that are missing. For "little" the apostrophe would go in place of the missing T's, thus:
Li'l Wayne
Any other placement of the apostrophe is ign'ant.
PS The word is spelled "weird."

First off that's not even Wayne's best flow on that beat.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gx3eCwMF0vwSecondly he's got 3 albums (Light's out, Block is Hott and 500 degrees) prior to the Carter series.
And lastly he's whats wrong with hip hop. People don't care about "I'm a Dope Boy and ballin" ish anymore. You want some real hip hop, listen to J Dilla, Dead Prez, Blackalicous, MF Doom, Madlib, Quazimoto, Strange Fruit Project, and Blu and Exile.
