No big deal, but I believe Ikanga got the quote from Coach Vigil during one of the many times he trained in Alamosa before the New York race. I don't if it's original with Vigil or if he also got it from somewhere else.
I know I'd seen it in writing from Coach Vigil back in the late eighties. Whatever, it's a good training philosophy.
