former cops are separated from the general prison population, so he would be put in a safe place, away from people who might want to do him harm. like people he arrested, if an inmate testifies against another inmate, they put them in separate parts of the jail, where they dont have any contact.
basically the people who were once law enforcement personal, have it safe, so i hear. example the 2 cops who went to prison in the rodney king beating case, got put in with the lowest level of criminals and a lot of people said it was unfair because they were pretty much in a place that seemed more like a country club with nonviolent inmates, i am sure mack has advantages and protections most people dont get.
