I had a Distal Femoral Osteotomy (DFO) and a lateral release (because my patella would go toward the lateral side when I would bend it ) right at 6 weeks ago. Just got cleared to walk with my brace 3 days ago. I was running to join the Navy in a SpecOps rate and just eventually ended up wearing my knees out from over training and running. I had a slight “Knocked Knee” deformity (was genetic and not from my knees collapsing) and my Dr suggested this because I was so young (24yrs) and wanted to stay fairly active, so he told me that the studies were very promising and he said it would benefit me a lot. When he went in my knee he said there was a little hole, but it looked like my knee was trying to heal itself. So, he decided not to do the cartilage transplant because it wasn’t as bad as he thought. At 6 weeks post op my knee is a little sore but I’ve just about got my full ROM back and can walk without a limp. (with and without the brace) I can already tell a difference between my left knee and right knee (DFO Knee) when it comes to feeling normal and not hurting. Which most of my pain in my surgery knee seems to be coming from the build up of scar tissue from the surgery. I am very pleased with the outcome so far and the Dr thinks I should be up to running within a couple of months.
