I'm not sure if Alabama's governor met with Saban, or Jed Bush met with Meyer... but, can anyone confirm whether West Virginia Football is that IMPORTANT to the STATE of AFFAIRS in WV? Or is this common practice?

bump
a few years ago one of the southern states tried to pass a law that all 3? of their division one public universities must play each other in basketball every year. arkansas?
not the same thing, but similar.
bump; thought this would make for a great research topic, any help would be great.
It happens quite frequently.
Gov. Manchin is a graduate of WVU and played football for them. He's a huge football fan and is trying to have some impact on who the coach is. Word is that he's VERY interested in getting Saban here but just can't pull it off.
The new coach should be announced tomorrow. Word is that it is Terry Bowden, Lord help us all.
I remember some years ago that at least one state had a rule that no state emloyee could have a greater salary than the Governor, so the Governor was more than happy to see the football coach's salary get raised from year to year.
It's JEB...not Jed. He's a Bush not a Clampett.
Some governors are automatically on the boards of trustees of their states universities, so by that connection, yes.

Too bad he couldn't be involved with bringing Mountaineer Men's CC/Track back
No governor will ever come close to what Huey P. Long did during the Great Depression in Baton Rouge. He led the LSU Marching Band during parades, wrote songs for the band to play during games, coached the LSU team when they began losing, "arranged" trains to take the student body to away games, and of course met personally with referees on the field before home games.

None between Jethro and W, well Jethro does have him a six-grade education, so I guess he gets the nod.

Sure, the Clampett's are "real" hillbillies. GWB is an Ivy-leaguer, elite prep-schooler, CT boy (well, cheerleader) who for some reason thinks that sounding borderline retarded makes him more likable. Why that works for him I'll never understand.
My appreciation for your responses- great stuff!
