Hey everybody,
I am a 1500m runner, and I have recently found out that I have a couple tears in my meniscus of my left knee. To be more specific, I have a subtle undersurface vertical tear on my medial meniscus, and a flap tear of the lateral meniscus.
I am currently faced with the option of either a) doing nothing about it, and hoping that I can continue to run without pain; or b) get a surgery done to remove those affected parts of my meniscus.
Now, when running I pretty much feel no pain except when I go about 5min pace or faster (basically when my knee bends past 90 degrees). Also, the next day my knee feels very sore and tight. It has been swollen since the time of my injury (two weeks ago), but I feel no pain walking around or anything, and I have no problems with it catching or locking.
The reason why I just don't want to go ahead with the surgery is because I have heard a lot of stories of athletes who get some sort of knee surgery, and then never come back again. This seems like a big risk for something that is only causing me slight pain.
So does anybody have any advice or experience regarding this? Thank you all very much. I have very few people to talk to, so I figured why not get a whole bunch in one spot.
