A new hotel is being built at the Franklin/Glenwood exit on I-5. Looks to be 3 or 4 stories tall, decent sized. It's completely framed out, roofed and sheathed at this point, so I'd be surprised if it isn't open by the time the Trials arrive. It's a bit less than a 2 mile jog to Hayward from there. I'll try to find out which chain is building it and post it later.
Both of these may be pre-sold for the trials, but it might be worth a try if you're looking for lodging still:
As a follow up, it is a Comfort Suites being built on 25th Ave. and they are targeting the end of January 2008 to finish construction with 66 rooms. I couldn't find a local contact with a quick search.

Visitors to Eugene/Springfield have a new full-service lodging choice with the opening of the Holiday Inn Eugene/Springfield in May 2008.
The newly-built property will feature whirlpool suites, high speed internet, indoor swimming pool, and health club. “The new Holiday Inn will be the place to meet in Springfield. It will have a young, modern, hip feeling to it.” says GM, Colleen Arruda. The upscale Italian restaurant will have 74 seats, with additional outdoor patio dining for 54 and is expected to attract those wanting a fine dining experience both during the workweek and on weekends. The hotel will have 153 rooms, and more than 4,000 Square Feet of meeting space, with room to host as many as four events at one time. Plans for an outdoor garden and walking area are in progress. Currently construction is on schedule for a mid to late May 2008 opening. The 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Track and Field will be held in Eugene June 27 – July 6, making this additional overnight capacity perfectly timed. (Web Presence projected for January 2008)
