Flying to races with sinus problems

I am a runner with chronic sinus problems who often flies around to track races during the winter. My sinuses tend to bother me when I fly and I often get sinus infections soon after the flight which is very frustrating. I guess there is something with the air pressure that upsets my equilibrum?

I am wondering if anyone has any advice as to what I could possibly take while flying to help my sinuses. I've tried Afrin, but it doesn't do much. I want to be able to get off the plane and feel good in my races, not like my head is about to explode!

As a fellow chronic sufferer, I feel your pain. Unfortunately, not much you can do to relieve the symptoms.

For everyday use, try the nasal "douche" in the shower. Use your nasal spray when needed and if your have allergies, take the meds.

I even had the operation many years ago. Unless they have enhanced the proceedure, it is a pain in the a__, er, nose.

This was in the Wall Street Journal this week: "Routine sinus infections aren't helped by antibiotics and other medicines, a study said, a finding that challenges treatment practices."

liberal use of saline spray. over-use decongestants before the flight. drink plenty of water before and while flying.

use the saline spray while in the air. wear a mask on the plane.

I think the mask part would get you tased as a best case scenario.

I used to get such searing pains through my head due to sinus problems when I flew I was scared every time I boarded. Decongestant tablets seemed to do the trick for me quite well.
