Great list! OMG you have Brother Kane on your list. #1 dau was close friends with Damon. We're from Alabama.
The Allman Brothers Band are always considered Southern Rock but they are so incredibly great that they transcend the genre and to me are more like Santana and The Dead with their psychedelia/blues/jazz influences. Saw them many times through the years starting when they would play for free in Piedmont Park in Atlanta. My sister met Gregg in Vegas once and said he was very nice. Dickie Betts is a bad ass on the guitar and Derek Trucks has always been amazing, basically carrying on the tradition.
Skynyrd will always be #1 in the traditional Southern Rock. I never saw the original group (huge mistake) but the survivor's group concerts were awesome and with everyone drunk and singing along. God bless Gary Rossington. Who's left?
Marshall Tucker Band was heavenly. I would have Molly Hatchett on this list somewhere maybe in the "In Your Face" category. We saw them one time outdoors in Huntsville and it was a *rough* crowd, like did everyone here just get out of prison or something!??
Back in the day you might get to see 2-3 of these bands all on the same card and not go broke; pretty girls, Jack Daniels, lots of smoke and good vibes.
I wouldn't have put Cash on the list simply because he is pure country, not to slight him. Going to see some of these guys is like a religious experience. They don't make 'em like this anymore.
Pleased you put Skynard on the list. A member of my church told me they were a racist band, so a lot of people aren't fans. Thanks, Dylan Roof!
Also, who can forget this classic scene from "Joe Dirt 2?" Probably everybody, since it wasn't a hit. Still a classic scene, regardless:
