Ok, so on Saturday I recieved my December edition of Running Times in the mail. Now this was just over 4 weeks after the Olympic Trials. They had no coverage of the Olympic Trials race. Yet they had an add in the magazine from Saucony who saluting Ryan Shay saying that he'll be missed (RIP). Now Ryan died at the trials and Saucony had time to come up with a full page add in his honor but the magazine couldn't come up with pictures or an article. In this information age that is very sad. To make even worse I also got my december issue of T&F News on Saturday and they (the magazine who is famous for being slow if nothing else) had a 2 page coverage of the trials and several good pictures.
I was also struck by the US Road Race Ranking that Running Times published. They had Ryan Hall down in 4th place in the US. The guy won the US Half Marathon Championships with an American Record and won The US Marathon Championships with a trials record and dominate performance and was also second in the US 15k championships, yet Running Times only gives him 4th place? Please!
If to their defense they say the rankings were done before the Olymic Trials, I would just say that it begs the question why do your ranking before the biggest race in the US that year and then put out the results after the race.
This magazine has gone downhill big time since it got bought out.
