with Hawaii being the ONLY undefeated team left, they need to get the credit they deserve. If not number 1, AT LEAST top 10 for sure. Personally, I think they could crush Missouri.

Hawaii is the reason we need a playoff. While not in a tough conference, they are undefeated. A playoff would give them the opportunity to show how good they are. Boise State did the same thing last year. Basketball has made a fortune off of the upsets over the years in the tourney. The reason it has not happened yet is the big boys are afraid of getting beat and continue to endorse the Bowl Championship Scam.
I am a Buckeyes fan and would love to have a playoff. We have been on both sides of public opinion. Some years we are regarded as the best and other years (like this year) we are not. Jim Tressel would have no problem with a playoff system as he won 4 Div 1-AA titles.
The Rainbows barely beat a Washington team with 2 conference wins and 4 wins overall. They were down 21pts! Such a convincing #1 team!

i am frequently astounded at the lack of knowlegde of the average american cititizen about the history of this country. General William Tecumseh Sherman was a general in the Union army during the Civil War. In 1864 he and his men ripped through Georgia destroying the confederate forces their and torching everything in their path.
i completely disagree that Hawaii is capable of such a performance but it is an apt analogy for the poster's prediction.

No, no, no... The reason a playoff is not in place is that football is run by the BCS. And BCS makes a lot of money off of bowl games. And people with money and power want to keep it. You will not see a playoff until more money can be made that way.
It has been suggested to decide who plays in the national championship games AFTER the bowl games. That might be as good as it gets for now.
Quite frankly I think having a month and a half off (51 days for Ohio State) is rediculous. Start the bowls earlier or the season later. I do like the idea of choising the top two teams after the bowls though.
