I've been out of high school for 2+ years and since I'm not on a team, I've just been running 45 mpw. My favorite event is the 800 (pr-2:04) and I want to train for it, but alone it has been difficult. Now I have a greater aerobic base than high school but still not amazing, which I'm looking to extend further. I could do, as I recently have, a 2:15 off of no speed, so would it be beneficial to train like a 5k runner from now through January (to increase oxygen capacity)then begin serious 800 (and 1500) training? I know I need a strong base but there is not a strong correlation between vo2 max and the 800 (or even the mile).
