YES.
we are so sorry for your loss Mr. Shay. Ryan was a great guy. I had the privilege of running behind him in many workouts (or of having him start late and chase me down...). he was definitely an inspiration to the rest of us.
Wow. What a classy thing for a father to do in a moment of such pain.
May you and your family find peace and, eventually, happiness in your memories.
Joe,
Your son was a beautiful person. RIP Ryan. Not many people understand his work ethic. As a teammate of his, it is undeniable. His memory will continue to inspire many for years to come.
I am sorry for his loss.
My prayers go out to you, and the rest of his family, and those who knew him.

Joe,
Thank you for your post and for your son Ryan. You have so much to be proud of. I'm so sorry for your loss and will keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers.
The sunset over the city just now was spectacularly beautiful- a brilliant fiery red. Perhaps Ryan did just say goodbye.

We can only hope so.
Ryan was capable of so much more than what he did in marathoning.
He was a beautiful person.
RIP Ryan.
Mr. Shay,
I've read nothing but the best about Ryan and your family. Your son Ryan was a great runner and person. Our best thoughts, wishes, and prayers are for you and your family during this difficult time.
One night a man had a dream.
He dreamed he was walking along
the beach with the Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from his life.
For each scene, he noticed
two sets of footprints in the sand,
one beloning to him and the other to the Lord.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him,
he looked back at the footprints in the sand.
He noticed that many times along the path of his life
there was only one set of footprints.
He also noticed that it happened at the
very lowest and saddest times in his life.
This bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you,
you'd walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed that during the most
troublesome times in my life there is
only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why when I needed you most
you would leave me."
The Lord replied "My precious, precious child,
I love you and would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffereing,
when you see only one set of footprints in the sand,
it was then that I carried you."
I'm at a loss of words, Ryan was an unbelievably thoughtful human being...I know that there's little that could be said to lessen your pain, so I figured this passage to be appropriate. Keep in mind that the life he lived should be one that is to be celebrated. However short it may have been; he was an extraordinary person who did extraordinary things. This is coming from a person who knew him for a mere 3 weeks; but I can confidently say that his character is one that inspires.

he will missed.
Im speachless
RIP Ryan.
My deepest condolences to you and your family. Events like this always put our mortality in the fore front. I truly beleive that your sons untimely coming will effect thousands of lives, if not for a moment. This story is too sad too tragic for those of us who read it to not change a few things in our lives. Life it too precious not to. RIP Ryan
my thoughts and prays are with the Shay family. RIP
