Not going to happen at the Olympic trials, nor to the three guys that make the olympic team as their next marathon likely will be in Beijing where it is hot, humid, and pollutted. Probably going to be someone who misses the Olympic team and goes to run the London marathon in the Spring.
My guess is Meb in 2:08 at London Marathon in 2008.
For guys like Meb, it's a bigger payday to miss the Olympic team anyway. He is getting older and does not have too many marathon paydays left. If he doesn't make the olympic team, then he can run a spring and fall marathon in 2008. I think when the going gets tough in NYC on November 3rd, this has got to play in the back of his mind (plus he has a calf injury) and he already has an Olympic Marathon Medal.
For some of the top American guys who don't make the olympic marathon team, they can make some strides in their career while everyone else is preparing for Olympic marathon. If Ryan doesn't make the team, maybe he goes and places top 3 in the Boston Marathon in the Spring; or goes and runs 2:07 in London; this will probably mean more than going to the Olympics and placing 10-12th in 2:14-2:16 in the heat and humidity of Beijing.
