All this commentary on the Marion-confession and/or Geb speculation ultimately is going nowhere.
It is cause for social and reciprocal aggression and evidence of the failure to make sport a globally-performable conflict-abstraction, to avoid deathly confrontation between people at all levels.
It is a cartoon symbol of an historic reality, but when Asterix and Obelix drank their druid-made magic potion to fight off the stronger, more numerous and technlogically advanced roman legions, it seemed more than fair as a function of their survival and preservation of their identity. Resist the conqueror. And be yourself.
In the real world, an 18th century fatal duel, when two gentlemen willingly chose their - exactly the same - weapon to compete against one another for their honor or prestige, to resolve a tort, would make modern day sport and the dubious and covert use of illegal substances seem ridiculously childish by comparison.
What is the point of an honorable duel, if you are not using exactly the same weapons?
If we want civilization - and its ability to renew itself as a function applied to mankind - if we want civilization to triumph, paradoxically we need to go back to foster wanting the duel rules, same weapons, hence the use or not-use of the weapons of today, be they steroids, EPOs, and whatever other processes and substances could skew the fairness of the fight.
The Athletes themselves must be the first to scream for this, and to try to compete with other athletes who feel the same way and have no fear of defeat in a real, respected duel. Where there is honor in defeat. Not just agony. Honor.
But if Athletes think or are made to believe they are going to war, in much less hilarious conditions than Asterix and Obelix did, well then they will always feel like taking the magic potion is justified or in the very least worthy of attempt. To save themselves from human worthlessness.
Beyond amplfying truths or speculation, could Letsrun also effectively promote FAIR competition?
For the good of mankind?
