If you were training for the most important marathon of your life and you needed to be in the best shape possible, and you could train anywhere in the United States, where would it be and why?

i'm no marathoner, but i have done high mileage weeks before. would have to go with the Bay Area, specifically the East Bay. lots of trails and great climate year-round. it can get hot there in the summer, and cool/ cold in the winter to toughen you, but not so cold that you're in the snow. great scenery and trails. skyline 50k is run from oakland to castro valley and is mostly trail the whole way (point to point course). also, enough entertainment to keep you grounded, but you can focus enough to get the job done. also, other good runners in the area to train with.
if altitude is your gig, i'd say Big Bear or Mammoth, although i've never been to Mammoth. i have a lot of friends that love it, and stay there for the month of July in prep for XC season. possibly lake tahoe, but i haven't run there in about 6 years.
Let's say you can go different places during the year. Where would you train for fall, winter, spring, summer?

Spring-- Anywhere on the West coast or Northwest.... everything is in full bloom!
Summer-- Alamosa or Flagstaff... high enough altitude
Fall-- Anywhere in the South or Midwest.... cool, calm wind
Winter-- Florida.... 70's and nice
I've never been to the Northeast-- any seasons nice there (maybe fall??)?
