For those of you that like the occasional good boxing match, but don't follow the sport to know what fights are exiting, I highly recommend catching a replay of last night's middleweight title fight on HBO. It should replayed at various times throughout the week.
The average sports fans probably has never heard of either (despite both being undefeating and excellent), but this fight blows away fights from guys like Floyd Mayweather who are there to get paid and don't care about finishing.
I was really excited about this fight, and it lived up to my expectations. I was a little surprised that it didn't get more publicity, but I guess Taylor and Pavlik aren't quite the marquee names that some others are.
A further note: After the fight, both men exhibited great class in their comments about each other and the fight itself. Very refreshing.

That was a great fight. No boxing at all, but a highly entertaining brawl.
Amazing amount of punishment dished out by both guys.

Mayweather will care about finishing in his next fight because he's the one that'll be finished.
I admire Mayweather's skill, but he's often not the most enjoyable fighter to watch. When he really opens up -- as he did against Arturo Gatti -- you can see how hard and effectively he can punch. Against more dangerous opponents, though, he tends to stay in a defensive stance and fire occasional bullets from behind his protective shield. He wins, but not in a way that thrills most people.
For all his rough edges, Pavlik is a fun guy to watch. Without giving too much away to those who didn't see it, his ability to survive that second round was inspiring.
