Knowing that all records will be broken, some day, I can think of no greater tribute to Paul Tergat than for Geb to have been the man to take this record. It would have been unfortunate for the great Kenyan had it been an anonymous, one-hit wonder to take the record off his shoulders. That it was instead Haile Gebrselassie, his principal rival and undoubtedly the greatest distance runner of all time, is a testament to Paul's own greatness. I'm sure he is honored that it was Geb who broke his 2:04:55. It is the ultimate salute to Paul's distinguished career.
