The weather is looking good.
The weather is looking good.
Look for John Kelai and Simon Wangai to go sub 2:10, maybe defending champ Daniel Rono as well. The weather does look great and I heard it will be live on CBC Country (whatever that is) and streaming live on the website
7am start will come early for the west coast guys!
I think Jerry Ziak is running his first full.
I think one of the women is shooting for 2:25.
Should be a great day.
i was down there for the 5k from about 7:15-9:00ish (marathon started at 7:00) and the conditions were absolutely perfect for racing.

Kelai breaks the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon Course Record and also records the fastest time ever run in Canada.
Ziak debut, just behind Kassap.

Could someone please link me to this? I'm somewhat firewalled here at the office. Thanks. (Looking for 11th place splits.) :)
Hey Skuj!!
The website is
I'm just on my phone so I can't link it.
Jerry seemed happy with his run. I think it was so nice a lot of guys went out too fast. Great race to watch on the big screen at the finish. John said he got a bit of a cramp about 2 k to go then it went away and he hammered it in.
Thanks, Mandingo.
Any word on the second pack's shortcut early on?
The timing mats at each turn around make it almost impossible to take a short cut. Are you sure the second group went short? I never talked to anyone who saw guys going short.
I was there, no one went short...one pack went about 300m long. It is actually impossible to go short.
Great quality race, and near perfect conditions (a touch humid perhaps)
Who, and how did they go 300m long????????? WTF?
Apparently, some guy from the Comox Valley zigged when he should have zagged, and led a bunch of other guys the wrong way. You know how that goes, Skuj :)
This is a joke, btw...
Neil Renault and Adrian Marriott both sub 2:19
great work!
From what I gather, this is what happened;
a couple of guys running along Lakeshore just past the 39 km route were beside a bike that turned right up Parliament; the street they came down at the beginning of the race. THe correct route was a right turn up bay street, which is about 1.5km futher up. Apparently the cyclist thought the cop car at Lakeshore and Parliament was "blocking lakeshore" and heading them up Paliament. THe course map was very well publicized and the distance from Lakeshore to the brige is less than 50meters. Unfortunate but as I pointed out to someone today, the entire race has only 15 turns!! Each one pretty distinctive. I don't know why they went up there.
Hahahaha...
Francis, you made it easy! :) Hope all is well....
Danny and the three or four others with him were about 100-150 meters ahead of Scott and myself when they made the wrong turn. We didn't see this happen, but when we reached that area it was chaos. We didn't know which way to turn. The bikes directed us onto the correct route but then started second guessing themselves. At the same moment Danny and the others merged back onto the course right beside us. Scott and I thought that maybe we had missed a little add-on loop and we ran the last 2km not knowing if we had cut the course or not. I was thinking, "Great! My first marathon and my time won't even be official". It became clear what had happened soon afterwards but the incident basically ruined the enjoyment (?) of my last 2k.
Jerry
I understand but you have to understand my surprise given he won the race 3 years ago. There were course maps everywhere and like I said before, only 15 turns. ONe of the bike guys told me the whole story but I was still pretty surprised. I could see you not being confident but someone from T.O. who ran it before, a little puzzling!
I would agree that it should be made impossible for someone to go off course but in this case, the bike guy/girl should have had a better idea of the course.
So I guess you're saying it cost him the equivalent of 150m since he said you got ahead of him at this point?
Great first marathon by the way!

Yeah, but late in a hard marathon, it's pretty hard to concentrate. As an athlete you expect the course marshalls to know where the turns are.
You are correct. THere are marshalls and many pylons at all 15 turns. THis was not a turn however.
