has anyone here tried quitting speed-work and races half-way through a season, amped up the mileage for a few weeks on just easy runs, and then returned to speed-work and races and met success?

you can tell me if you tried it and met failure, too.
alright, last response to myself: I should've specified a time-scale here.
I'm talking like: 3 months of easy running, then 4-6 weeks of in-season training...then returning to easy running for several more months, to be followed by several more months of in-season training (without taking any real prolonged rest in between).
i've never heard of macrocycles.

how's that working out for you?
i've never sensed sarcasm.
I find that throwing in a week or two of high milage in the middle of the season can help. I don't know if it's actually physiological or if it's more just a mental thing, but it helps me to throw in a mini-base training period every once in a while.
one little bump
