I think the only thing they are missing is a real front runner. McPherson is good, but he is no Boit, Kosgei or Craig.
It's a little deeper than that. And that's "Cragg," btw.
Arkansas used to have three or four guys that were national champion caliber (cross and track). Two or three more that could make All-American. They aren't getting enough of those types these days. There's more competition for athletes. More elite programs. Kids want to live and go to school in very specific environments. Fayetteville is a great town, but Arkansas can be a hard sale to a kid that's looking at Stanford, Wisco and Boulder.
And the problems are just not athletic and talent related. Coach Nutt isn't the only one dealing with "As The World Turns" drama and shenanigans. All coaches deal with it, but Coach Mac seems to have had a run of bad luck of late.
Arkansas will be back, but yes, it's a tough sell compared to some other places. Although I will say that Arkansas' facilities are probably the best overall. It's pretty unbelievable.
Congrats to OSU. I'm sure it was a long time coming for them.
I was just looking over some of the results again, and these guys were flying for that course!
Does anyone know what the 8k course record is? I remember it being Adam Goucher, but how far off were these guys? I have run on this course in years past and if you can run under 24 on the jamboree course you can really fly!
1. John Kosgei, South Plains - 23:42
2. Nicodemus Naimadu, Abilene Christian - 23:46
3. Ryan Vail, Oklahoma State - 23:49
ok, how many of weis' guys are foreign? anyone know? how many of the tulsa guys are foreign?
i love outsiders!recruits foreigners all day long i say!you high schoolers suck anyways!
after a quick look through the results, I counted 15 foreigners in the top 20. (me being one of them).
If guys are going to complain about it then feel free to do so, as to be honest its not going to bother any of them/us foreigners. Otherwise shut up, train harder and run faster!
I didn't know Weis was the cross country coach at Oklahoma State.
2 of his guys are foreign, matt barnes-smith and dan watts are from england, but the rest of the team are american i think
Yeah Chirchir was born in Oklahoma huh?
I think what people forget is that the foreigners that OSU gets aren't superstars when they get there, they still have good coaches, well good mens coaches, and they develop them really well. Arkansas would take any foreigner they could as well. Wetmore think's too highly of himself for only trying to recruit from the USA, if the NCAA only wanted athletes from the USA they would make their rules that way. Welcome to America, the country of immigrants!
Lay off ChirChir and the other foreigner\'s. Just train harder or stop complaining.
So are the times on this course usually slower than they would be at the ND Invite?
so Arkansas didn't have Cormier running. I don't know how good Costello is so I don't know if he would've made a difference if he had run the race. You would think Cormier would've made a significant difference, if he's fit and healthy.
If David Jankowski had been running healthy then they would have been stompted worse! OSU are on fire! and they still rocked arkansas without their 28:51 10k guy who has a 53rd place at nationals in 2005!
first off, and seriously this isn't backhanded, congrats to OSU! but one trend I'm noticing is that quite a few seemingly OSU currents, alums, or fans are super excited about this. I'm assuming that they put a big X on the calendar for this meet. It's their home meet and they desperately wanted to win this meet because they've got a solid team this year and haven't won it in years so they knew that this was their shot. The hogs on the other hand didn't race one of their top guys and had two other solid guys open up here. I'm assuming that, while the hogs surely tried their best to win the race, this one doesn't mean too much to them. Nationals is nearly 2 months off and the race there is 10K. The hogs beat OSU in terre haute but expect OSU to be top 8.
How will that help you if you know the number of the foreigns. That portrays a bad picture.
from what i understand, Arkansas have always gone for every race they enter. They don't tempo races or anything like that. I could be wrong though, but that is just my studying the results...
re-read my post, specifically the part about them trying to win.
Leave the Hogs ALONE!!!!! Just leave them alone!!! What did they ever do to any of you?!?!? Leave them alone!!!
