A coworker and I were discussing the new Ken Burns series, which has been marvelous.
We touched on one primariy topic: Could today's America handle a situation similar to that of 1941-1943? We agreed it would not.
The reasons are legion, but primarily stop at one word:
INCONVENIENCE.
Would today's kids be able to handle short supplies of goods in stores, rationing and the like? We thought not given the preponderance of things "necessary" such as iPoDS, cellphones, SUV's, text messaging and instant satisfaction.
Feel free to dispute.
I am not even addressing the 24/7 365 news coverage we have today, along with poor security, the 'web et al.
We'd be in rough shape.
