I'm looking for some advice on designing a XC course for the small college I coach at (we've been using another school's course for our ocassional "home" meets). I've tryed researching this, but can't find many official rules or guidelines for course design, so I'm hoping that someone here can give some direction. Here are a few of my questions:
- What's the longest that a hill can/should be?
- What's the steepest that a hill can/should be?
- Does the course have to be a minimum width at all points, or can you get away some short portions on single-track trails?
- How long is it acceptable to have athletes run over asphalt?
- How long/wide should the starting stretch be?
- How big of a priority should to make a course "spectator friendly"?
