Are they holding nationals in early september now?

What about the sophomore from CMS who was right behind Chavez at the UCI invite this last weekend? 24:43, and I've never heard of the kid before. I checked a little and saw a 4:08 and a 4:11 1500 to his credit from last track season. Talk about massive improvement!
the course was FUBAR, and Ethan probably ran 600m short. Not necessarily intentionally - a few people did. They changed the course AFTER the start of the race, and made the leaders do an extra lap that had them weaving in and out between anybody who was 2:30 back of them.
just for the record, kevin's name is spelled "chaves", and while he's a great runner, I don't think he's made all-american yet in cross.

No, but I think someone that ran a 25:25 now in early September has a better shot at winning nationals than say...someone with a 29:25 time in early September. He is probably still running peak mileage right now, and so IF he stays healthy (and past history shows us he doesn't get hurt) and tapers like any athlete would for a championship meet, he has a far better shot at winning nationals than a lot of people out there.
Brian Chenoweth from Wartburg College in a kick over Tyler Sigl from UWP.
i thought petter kosgei was at arkansas? did he transfer again or is this a different guy
I can't believe only one person has mentioned Julian Boggs from Colorado College. He finished 3rd last year after losing his shoes in the mud and running most of the race barefoot.
Actually, I believe Julian only lost 1 shoe in the mud, then stopped and removed the 2nd shoe :)
Ricky Fylnn, Lynchburg
Its a different Peter Kosgei. The "race", which will be for second place, will be won by Boggs.
in a whisper...boggs boggs boggs
Peter Kosgei is the freshman who one the steeple last year from Hamilton at NCAA. Not sure if he is going to win, but def. should be considered a contender. He just won his first race easily. Talked to him before, nice kid
When was running 25:25 considered being that great.
It's a solid early year time, but deserving of being considered a favorite for a national title...please.
I'm going with Butzler or Seigl.
I have to agree with the concensus pick.
Kosgei FTW.
Brian Butzler is going to not only win the WIAC but also Nationals. That kid is tough, I don't see too many sticking with that guy.
Does anyone realize how absurd this thread is?
Every single poster has said a different name.
Why is D1 more clear cut and D3 is all over the place?
If this thread were about D1 there would be a few names thrown.... around not 35. How can there possibly be this many contenders for the national title???
This is a legitimate question......Why is D3 all over the place?
I think it's because in D1 everyone who is contending was pretty much really good in high school, and has stayed good. There is much more room for up and coming stars in D3. So much can change in one year, thats the reason for so many names.
its not. there are probably about 10 people who have a legitimate shot at the title. it seems a lot of people just want to rep the best runner on their team.
so for legitimate contenders we have
boggs
kosgei
butzler
maybe kaul
place
abdallah
chavez
sigl
and two or three others that i can't think of off the top of my head.
In D I there is a clear cut line. you have the guys that are national/international caliber and the ones who arent. thats not really the case in diii
Mark O'Dozzi
i'm sorry, but chaves isn't a legit contender for a national title. all american for sure, but not national champ. boggs will stomp on him. he won't even win his own region. and in the first race oxy ran in, him was ahead of ramon by a second...so if you say chaves, you gotta say ramon too. and neither of them has a LEGIT shot...outside shot MAYBE.
I have to throw in the name, Craig Donnelly. Richard Stockton jnr transfer from Naia school Westmont. A little birdy told me so.
