I'm trying to choose between two races on the same weekend and have some questions about the "cause" runs. I've done two for cancer this summer; both were more expensive than the going rate to enter, and both skimped on the awards (top *one* overall in one, top five overall in the other). Komen didn't even bother to put their results on their site till a month later. I'm not that worried about awards, I know it's for the cause and all that, it just seems suspicious to me that the local Church of Our Lord God Up There In Heaven Run For the Heathens can go three deep by age group and Komen et al can't be bothered to even have divisions, yet their race is 10 bucks more on the entry fee than the average local one. The local races draw maybe a couple of hundred entrants, so they're bringing in less $, but the racer seems to get more for their money. Komen raised some ungodly amount of money that day and had sponsors up the wazoo, I guess I just wonder if all the money goes back into the cause or if someone's getting rich. I'm trying to decide between another Disease-of-the-Week run and a local one that funds scholarships for area athletes and is put on by the local running club. I just want to know that my money is going where it's supposed to go. Does anyone know the numbers, %ages, etc. for the bigger runs?
