has any one every surprised them self in a race after a long lay off?
I started training this February, averaging around 30 miles a week. In the past 15 months I had hardly run at all, and I had totaled 6 miles over the past 4.5 months (a grueling 4 and two 1's on the treadmill at 7:30 pace). I did about two workouts a week with a couple days off. April I entered my first track race in well over a year, hoping to crack 4:20 for the 1500. Well I ended up running 4:11, just getting nipped at the line (slowest of 3 heats). I had run a 4:49 1600m time trial 3 weeks before, so this race came out of absolutely nowhere; keep in mind my lifetime PR is only 4:02. Then I came back with a 9:20 3k (a second off my steeple PR). Either one or weeks later, I ran a 5k/800 double in 16:19 and 2:05. Then I promptly hung up the spikes again and have run less than 10 miles since.
