So, I've started training with my university xc team for the first year. I'm used to running over 80mpw (peaking as high as 130) with a lot of easy mileage at ~7:30-8:00min/mi. I've had good success (went from 34's to 32's this year) with high volume of easy mileage and three workouts in a week and I've read of a lot of guys doing really easy easy days and really hard hard days. But the guys on the xc team do all their easy mileage at 6min/mi and cap at 60mpw. I really want to use this fleeting opportunity to train with the quick milers and improve my speed. But does that mean I must forego the slow miles? Are any fleet-footed high-mileage advocates familiar with this situation?
