I found this little review:
Mizuno breaks records with their newest racing flat, the Wave Universe. Weighing in at a gravity defying 3.7 ounces, this shoe will feel like nothing on your feet because it pretty much is. This shoes won't make you run faster. It won't even hold up long enough to run a victory lap. But It will cost over 40 dollars an ounce, retailing at $150 US. Where can you find this shoe? It will be released this July. Mizuno has decided to limit the production to 800 pairs, which may make this shoe harder to get a hold of than the new iphone. Pictures will be posted upon release.
We got them in yesterday. They are super light and 3.7 sounds about right. Super low profile.
I have a pair so there are 799 available.
"It won't even hold up long enough to run a victory lap."
This worries me, I think I'll stick with my Adizero PRs...they are 3.9 ounces and I have already put close to 100 miles on them with no signs of wear....By far my favorite shoes ever. I plan on wearing them for XC...I DONT CARE THAT THEY ARE ROAD FLATS :)
I asked my Mizuno Rep about them and he said that no one in his territory (mich/ohio) pre-booked them. Its a neat idea, but in the age of TnT and people not running races to race, the racing flat business has become very, very small.
I agree with Runit the Adizero's are my fav flat that I wear and hold up great to the wear and tear I put them through weekly, I'm looking foraward to my next pair once i wear this pair out
just to add a single issue with the adizeros is that the Achilles area of the shoe goes straight across causing it to cut into your Achilles and leave you with that stupid cut that most runners know too well. You know.....that one that leaves your sock bloody in the heel area. It doesn't hurt at all though as long as you wear socks that cover that area.
They're pretty comparable to the RCs. I've worn them around a store but didn't actually run in them. I think the upper is more comfortable than the RCs'.
yeah our mizuno rep brought them in one day and they were ridiculously thin and light but the production is so small and retail so high that we aren't getting them. most of the production is going to japan markets anyway so that 800 number is probably at least cut in half for a US order.
as other posters stated you could try the adizero pr which is 0.2 ounces heavier or the asics pirhana which is 4.8 ounces i think. if you'd rather have a spike wait for the ventulus 2 to come out, it's 3.9 ounces.
I don't think they actually are any less durable than the Adizero PR. Its just 3.7 ounces so it won't last long. Tried them on at our store yesterday. We got in size 8-12 with no 11. I usually wear a 13 and I tried on the 12 because it was the largest we brought in. There was well over an extra finger length of room at the end of the shoe. It ran way big. I could see using them on the track or maybe a short road race 5k or less. It is a pretty sweet shoe though.
agreed, i picked up a pair. Ran a race in them the next day. It feels like i'm wearing a pair of socks. Worth 150 bucks? Well, that's a different story. I was looking for the Adidas flats, but no stores around here carry them. And besides, only 800 were made? At least I can be in the elite category of something.
800 pair were made for US distribution only. Worldwide distribution is higher.
Anyone have a chance to try these out? Very odd appearance but who knows.
Can anyone comment on the sizing? I'm a 9 in most shoes, but I've been using the Katana Racer for over a year, and I'm a 9.5 in those, which fit perfectly. Thanks.
I know they run big. Trying to find out just how big. Its almost a size and a half for me (normal shoe=13: universie size 12= too big on my foot). Other employees will be trying them on soon to see if they get the same idea. Email me if you want more info.

that new kaze is sick. can't wait to get them in. i think mizuno is wasting their time with that. how many accounts are booking that shoe?
Kaze: 12mm heel/forefoot drop. Too much for me, I'll stick with the Fila flats.
cyron10K: Are you sure that the production models are sizing that way? I wear a 9.5 in the Katana Racer 2. My local shop only had the 9.5 in the Universe. They certainly don't feel like boats, and I'd guess that the 9.0s might be tight. (The Universe are a work of art.)
(The 9.5s in the Katana Racer 2s fit me perfectly. I've been doing all my training in them (ave. 70 mpw) for well over a year. The Katana Rac3rs (the next version) have the same midsole, but the upper feels larger; I'm very bummed, but hopefully the difference won't matter. The Universe feel lighter, thinner, and more minimal.)

Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
