we shall see pratt
Just because Jim Spivey said it don't make it just. For all we know Spivey could be jealous at all the attention Webb's getting. Don't let his track record blind you from making your own revelations.
Spivey talked about how he PR'd by what 3-4 seconds when he ran 3:31 so his PR was generally 3:34-3:35 at the time. Webb only PR'd by 2 seconds and not only that but the shape he was in last year he probably could've ran 3:31 by the end of last year's season. This time he ran is some what past due as he probably could've ran really close to it last year. Spivey had a one hit wonder phenomenal time so you couldn't really expect him anyways to improve much after that. But look at Webb, does it seem like this is a one hit wonder type deal? Far from it. He will run faster, accept that. Just because Spivey said don't make it legit. So hop off the dick and get a backbone.
The point here is not that Webb is the greatest miler of all time, it's that we American distance running fans have suffered for so long that we're like Boston Red Sox fans were until a few years ago, continually waiting for the drought to end, for someone to come along and restore some pride to American distance running. Since Webb ran 3:53 in high school in 2001, he has carried a lot of those hopes on his shoulders. To see him finally break through and establish himself as a legitimate medal contender at a major meet is very exciting for all of us.
Why is it so hard on you wannabees when an American runner does well? He ran 3:30, so what? Lessee you do it! Wishing him well and being happy for him is just good ole American way. It is so easy to see your insecurity in your post. He is still young, the 3rd fastest American ever, and its immaterial what Kenyans have done. We are slowly pulling them back at every distance. Lighten up girl!
See:
Only 17 runners in history have ever broken 3:30.00 per IAAF's All-Time List. 6 were from Kenya, and 2 each from GBR, MAR and ALG. Webb's time was the fastest by an American born runner. So I think it is a fairly big deal.
Couple that with Ryan Hall's recent London Marathon Performance and it appears that American male distance runners might still be able to compete with the best in the world. There are also some promising young athletes with the AJR and Collegiate 10K records (men and women) recently broken. What we need now is some American to run 12:50 in the 5K or 26:50 in the 10K and be competitive with the world's best at those distances.
38 of the top 100 times are by Hicham El Guerrouj (though some are conversions, and the world-record mile conversion doesn't seem to be on there.) Wow. It's amazing how great he was.

why is everybody soo hyped with Webbs 3.30 ???? He won, yes, he ran 3.30, yes, so what ?? Is that the end of his running ?? I mean came on America, This is not World Championships or Olympics, Lets waits till the guy performs at the end of summer, then we can give him credit. Alot of kenyans have run soo many 3.30s , and this is just but the beginning. Everything on letsrun is just Web, Web,Web, Forget !!!!!!
And what's so hyped with Bekele's 26:17??? My God, he had pacemakers and perfect weather. Look at him now, acting like a small child because he could not deal with the heat and humidity in Kenya at the cross country race.
I am making a joke here....
Alan Webb is obviously not setting World Records, but he did win a major race, and we have every right to celebrate a major win for one of our countrymen.
when was the last time you got to watch an american win a world class distance race live (on the internet) in front of 50,000 people? and silence the crowd? ever?
You just jelouse because webb's goin have a building named after him, possibly National holiday.

This is the biggest American miling accomplishemt since Joe Falcon won the Dream Mile in 1990 in 3:49.
The last American World title was 1908 and Webb is still unlikely to get that.
So we have to savour what we can.
SO WHAT!!! I CANT BELIEVE YOU JUST SAID "SO WHAT" Alan Webb is only 24 yrs old! He's doing things not even Steve Prefontaine ever did. Think about that. Not since The Great Jim Ryun have we had something to get excited about. Maybe Steve Scott, but he never carried that exciting ora that Alan is carrying. This is HUGE for all running fans. Especially for high school kids. Alan Webb still has 3 yrs before he even peaks as a runner. By the end of his career he will hold every American Born running record from 800 to the 10K! He's the Tiger Woods of American middle distance running right now.

Thanks. You made my day there.

Well, that's exciting. The fastest ANGLO-American! Who is the fastest Italian American? Spanish? Zzzzzz.....

Probs. Too much of a head case to keep it together through the rounds. I say he does 3:29 in semis and 3:34 in the final after getting boxed in during a tactical race.

Oh, wow. It's that bleak, is it?
Seriously, Hall's debut this year was far more impressive.
I wonder why ELG retired so early?
"Webb will be the fastest Anglo American miler...." Why do you have to bring up race idiot? Just say American
