Anyone know the results of the male Masters Mile?
sorensen 4:13.21
go to usa track and field, it is up in live results
4:13 is a good solo time for Jim. Did anyone set the pace for him?
T Young's fast mile times came with the younger runners. I recall a 4:12 @ Drake a couple of years back where he solo'd. All of his times under 4:10 - probably 8-10 times - where being in the fast pack though.
Jim still has plenty of time to run a fast mile.
Super Effort Jim!
I'm sure he just ran within himself, considering he ran the equivalent of 4:03 a few weeks back.
No one set the pace for him. Not sure it was the best conditions for a record attempt. We all got off to a slow start. I think 64 for Jim, 65 for John, 66 for me at the quarter. After that I think we threw out what we planned to run. I think Jim ran a 57 last quarter. It was fun watching the race ahead of me.
Jim mentioned that he was going to go for the mile record this Wednesday. I forgot the name of the meet, but maybe someone else knows.
Here's more info:
"4:13 isn't that great for me," said Jim Sorensen after winning the men's masters mile exhibition at the 2007 USA Track & Field Championships in Indianapolis. Sorensen led Saturday's race from the gun, splitting three even 65-second laps en route to his 4:13.21. John Hinton was second in 4:23.44.
"I was running pretty much the same times last year," said Sorensen. "The only difference is that now I'm 40. If I really want to run fast, I need to get in an open race with the young guys." Sorensen took second in the 1,500m at the 1996 Olympic Trials.
Sorensen will get a chance next Wednesday, June 27. A rabbited mile race is being set up in Bloomington, Indiana, to give Maryland high schooler Matt Centrowitz, whose peak is probably as far ahead of him as Sorensen's is behind him, a shot at a sub-4:00. Sorensen, who says he thinks he can run "4-oh-something," will jump in. (Note: Centrowitz noted after his own final, the junior men's 1,500m, that he hasn't confirmed he'll run in Bloomington, but will decide tonight. "It's 50-50 at this point," he said.)
