Not sure when this record took place, but the best in T&F is the women's 3:50 1500M, or 2:02 per 800M pace. Tiffany McWilliams probably can't run that in an open 800M right now, and has only beaten that once in her career. Plus, how often has anyone come within several seconds in a long time? Very few.

800m: Jarmila Kratochvílová 1:53.28 1983
Of course they were German She-men.

It looks like the oldest official world records go back to 1981 in both the 25,000 and 30,000 meters.
25,000
1:13:55.8 Toshihiko Seko JPN Christchurch 22 03 1981
30,000
1:29:18.8 Toshihiko Seko JPN Christchurch 22 03 1981
Not to be confused with the 25k and 30k world records...

If you'd stayed with it another five seconds, you might have learned that Kratochvilova is Czech.
mens 4 x 1500m West Germany dates from 1977
