Yeah, I second some of the comments above ... if small things like that are gonna throw you off then small things are always gonna throw you off ... I've had some of my best runs while travelling during long marathon training build-ups ... damn, once I was in Paris when I had to get in a 20-miler, so I got a map of the city, mapped out as close to a 10-mile loop as I could measure, woke early on a sunday so there wouldn't be much Paris traffic, put two of the hotel plastic cups full of water in front of the hotel, then got out there and ran a hard 20-miler ... there wasn't hardly a sole on the paris streets at 6 am on a sunday ... another time I was in Mexico City ... took a cab to the '68 Olympic Stadium, then ran 15K straight on one road back to the hotel, amidst a non-stop throng of roadside venders, buses, cars, and people ... absolutely insane ... the all-time best, however, example, of being adaptive for your workout was in NYC, when I jogged out to Randalls Island to do 20x400 ... the track wasn't accessible sine there was a huge Puerto Rican festival, partof which covered the track... I snuck into the stadium, and ran at the top of the stadum (u shape) ... at the finish end there was a huge group of kids smoking pot ... after every interval I was breathing the fumes, absolutely insane ... anwyway, just some rantings on being adaptive ....
